Advanced Magic was published in 1919 and provides an intriguing window to magic of the early 20th century. There are card tricks, a slate effect, Ink through Hat, Spirit Watch, Improved Rising Rope on Hoop, Mammoth Production of Flowers, and much more. The book is noteworthy for its attractive Art Nouveau cover, and also includes a few pages of magic-related advertising. The book is in pretty good condition considering its age, but there is some fragility on the spine around the staples that bind the cover to the rest of the book. Paperback, 64 pgs.
Joe Ovette began his career as a magician with the Kickappo Medicine Show. From 1916 to 1919, under the auspices of the YMCA he entertained the soldiers of World War I. Subsequently he toured the U. S. and Canada in vaudeville and other circuits. At one time he performed under the name Lung Chan Yuen and also did a hanging illusion and was billed as "The Man They Couldn't Hang." He published several books and contributed to numerous magic magazines. Ovette died in 1946.
