Recently, as has been reported in The New York Times and numerous other publications and broadcasts, the owners of the Cafe were notified by the Hotel Management that they would have to vacate the space. The hotel plans to offer a more upscale restaurant in the location.
Many supporters have stepped up to voice support for the restaurant which is popular among theatre district workers, theatergoers, and magicians among others. At the Saturday event, many diners wore stickers which read "Save the Cafe Edison." The Saturday event was the second lunch bomb at the spot with more to come.
The magicians who participated in the Save the Cafe Edison lunch bomb were Richard Bossong, Peter Samelson, Rene Clement, Patrick Davis, Eric Brown, and Herb Scher (of this very web site). Tom Klem, who currently spearheads and oversees the weekly Magic Table lunches helped organize the event with Jeremiah Moss from the Vanishing New York blog. Among the media covering the event were reporters from NPR and New York magazine's Grub Street.
